Forget Christmas shopping – spend this weekend clearing out old stuff you don’t need to make room in your house for your guests over the holiday season!
There are a few different options for you to get rid of the things you no longer need. Have some old electronics or furniture laying around? If they are still in good condition, donate them to a reuse store. For your convenience, there is a reuse store located at the Mountain Community Recycling Centre. All procedes support Community Living Hamilton.
If you have electronics that are no longer working, you can recycle them at the Community Recycling Centre as well. Check out the CRC website for a list of things they accept.
Bulk pickup also starts next week (December 5th). Call the city 905-546-CITY(2489) at least one week prior to your collection day to schedule bulk pickup. You can put out up to 4 items on a scheduled bulk pickup day. Check out the website to see if your items qualify. Remember, when we pick up these bulk items, they go straight to the landfill – so consider other possible reuses for these items.
Still have leaves falling off the trees? Even though unlimited yard waste collection has ended, you can continue to put out up to 2 bags of Leaf and Yard waste at your curb. If you have more then that, you can drop it off at a CRC for free.
Happy Recycling!
I signed up for a “gold” box. No sign of it yet. We do not put our big green bin out every week because there are only 2 of us in the house and it’s takes us a few weeks to fill it up. We also have a garburator so this also eliminates a lot of food scraps that would normally go in the green bin. Can we expect a “gold” box anytime soon?
We randomly select areas to audit based on the applicant list to be fair to everyone. This means it could take us a couple weeks to audit your area, or a couple years.
