It sure is hot out today, and if you are anything like me, you have big plans for spending time outdoors and enjoying the heat this weekend.

It’s perfect weather for a day by the pool or at a beach, and what goes with a pool day better than a barbeque with friends? Here are some helpful sorting tips to help you put your waste in the right place when entertaining.

1. Prepackaged burgers:
Boxboard packaging can go in the papers recycling bin. The plastic around the burgers is too thick to be recycled, so it has to go in the garbage. You can put the wax paper sheets that separate the burgers in the green bin.

2. Fresh meat and chicken:
The styrofoam goes in the containers bin, while the plastic wrap and absorbent meat pag go in the garbage. Don’t forget that all leftover bones and fat can go in the green bin.

3. Beverage cups:
Even though many plastic drink cups, like the famous “red solo cup” have the recycling symbol on them, they cannot be recycled in Hamilton. If you use them, be sure to toss them in the garbage. A better option: use reusable cups that you can wash and use next time.
